We asked your thoughts about the World Handicap System and you responded in huge numbers – almost breaking Steve Carroll’s email. In today’s episode he joins co-host Tom Irwin to chat through some of what you said about WHS.
We discuss the results of Golf Ireland’s survey of its handicap allowances pilot – where many clubs surprisingly opted not to change anything.
We talk about what needs to happen with general play to make it more palatable to those suspicious it’s open to manipulation. And what is to come? Are gimmes inevitable?
Tom and Steve also review the recent Walker Cup, while discussing pathways for juniors and Steve’s fascination with hickory golf!

Hi NCG I think it’s time to democratise golf so like the government if a threshold of people sign a petition the R&A / WHS have to talk about the subject and publish the discussion and outcome. This will help some of the round and round arguments as whether you agree or not you’d be more likely to accept a non dark room dictate. For what it’s worth my subjects to improve and speed up Pro and Am golf 1 forget ball roll back 2 no club in playing grip should extend past the wrist in upward direction . 3 Only players allowed on greens. Thanks for a great pod, best wishes Peter (61 and a half) 13 hcp 😀
